How do I set data capture questions to only accept a numeric response?

Overview

Data capture questions in evaluagent can be configured to accept only numeric responses. This is useful when you need to collect measurable data such as call duration, handle time, or other numerical values during evaluations.

Getting there

Go to Settings > Quality Settings > click the Data Capture Questions tab

Here, you can create a list of questions that will be available to you when building your scorecards. For each question you create, you can enable a free-text or numeric response.

Creating a numeric-only question

Click + New question to open the Add a Question modal.

  1. Enter the phrase you want to use to prompt the evaluator.

  2. Decide whether evaluators can select multiple responses from a list of pre-populated options.

  3. Decide whether the question will use a free-text response or a list of pre-populated responses.

Setting up a numeric response

  • Free text response = Yes: When you set free-text to "Yes", you'll see the option to make this numeric. The default is "No", where any text is accepted.

  • Numeric responses only? = No: Any characters entered in the answer field will be accepted.

  • Numeric responses only? = Yes: Only numeric responses will be accepted in the free text field. The value must be a whole number (decimal numbers are not accepted) and must be 0 or higher.

Data capture questions set with a numeric-only response are indicated with a calculator icon, so you can easily identify them from the settings page.

Numeric-only responses during evaluation

When completing a response to a numeric-only data capture question, users will see that this is a numeric-only field with the "0 or higher" parameters indicated. You can enter a number manually or use the up and down arrows within the field to increase or decrease from 0 (or from the number you entered). No other character types can be entered with this field type.

Common use cases

  • Call duration (minutes): Capture measurable data for analysis

  • Handle time: Track interaction duration across agents

  • Customer wait time: Record hold or wait times

  • Number of transfers: Count how many times a call was transferred

Important notes

  • Numeric questions only accept whole numbers (no decimals)

  • The minimum accepted value is 0

  • Questions that have been used on evaluations become locked and cannot be edited or deleted, to preserve reporting integrity

  • You can deactivate a question at any time to hide it from future scorecards while preserving historical data
