Why use Open-Ended Questions?
When building a Quiz to be used at the end of an eLearning course, you can now add Open-Ended Questions where the learner needs to upload a file (eg: a video/audio file) as their answer. For example, it could be a recording of how they would deal with a specific type of query, or how they would pitch a new product.
When learners submit text or files and finish the course, they will be notified that the course will be reviewed by an admin before being marked as completed.
How to create a quiz with an Open-Ended Question / File Upload question type
- Create a standalone quiz or a quiz within a course.
- In the course or quiz basic settings, choose whether the submissions should be reviewed and rated by Admins.
- Add a new question
- When adding a new question Select "Open text"or "File upload" as the required question type
- Provide the learner with some instructions as to what you'd like them to do.
Please note: When creating new courses, review mode will be automatically activated. If you wish to not review and score submissions, you will need to deactivate by switching it off from the course settings section.
The Leaners experience
If an open-ended question has been included as part of the quiz, leaners will have a subtlety different experience and will have to wait for the review to be completed before an outcome is decided. This can be seen in the following screenshots.
The question and upload instructions will appear within the Quiz
When learners submit text or files and finish the course, they will be notified that the course will be reviewed by an admin before being marked as completed.
How to review the submitted content
- When the learner has completed the quiz, and there is content available to be reviewed, managers will receive a notification prompting them to review the answer. Alternatively, you can visit the Track session to see a list of submissions requiring review
- Click on the review button next to the question you want to view the answers in an expanded view
- Review the submitted items one by one
- Approve / Reject and leave feedback on the submitted response
What happens after the Open-Ended question has been reviewed?
Once the review is submitted, the learner will receive an automated notification with the results and the system will mark the course as Done.
The system will mark the course as Failed (If a passmark was set) and the user did not pass.
